Benjamin Fawcett is regarded as being one of the top three colour printers of the 19th century and at his premises in Driffield he produced illustrations for about 150 books mainly in the field of natural history. Many of these books are very scarce but Greene’s Parrots in Captivity, Morris’s Game Birds, Maund’s Botanic Garden, Houghton’s Freshwater Fishes, Morris’s British Birds, Bree’s Birds of Europe and Country Seats of Great Britain and Ireland are some of the highlights of his work. We have been building a collection of Fawcett’s books and have over 120 of the 150 books he illustrated.
